B.C.’s police oversight agency says charges should be considered in a 2025 crash involving an Abbotsford police vehicle that left a man injured.

It happened on Feb. 20, when the police vehicle collided with a GMC Envoy near the intersection of King and Gladwin roads.

The driver of the Envoy was injured and was flown to hospital.

The two officers in the unmarked vehicle were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Friday, the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. said its chief civilian director, Jessica Berglund, has completed the investigation and, based on the evidence, found “reasonable grounds exist to believe that an officer may have committed driving-related offences.”

The agency has asked the B.C. Prosecution Service to consider charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The prosecution service will have to consider whether there is a substantial likelihood of prosecution and if prosecution is in the public interest, said the IIO.
