Police said a firearm was also recovered by investigators.
The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, will be identified once their next of kin are notified, police said.
The shooting was the city's first homicide of 2026. Anyone with more information is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
In an email Monday, Metrolinx said transit customers who feel unsafe on trains or buses can use the yellow strip or text "HELP" to 77777 for immediate assistance. It said special constables and customer protection officers are deployed around the clock on trains, stations and platforms for further support.
