Mats Sundin was in the building on Tuesday night.
For a rather good reason.
Three nights after Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews broke Sundin’s record for most goals in Leafs history, Sundin was on hand for a pre-game ceremony honouring Matthews’ achievement.
Before the Leafs played host to the Florida Panthers at Scotiabank Arena, Sundin presented Matthews with the perfect memento of Matthews’ historic game against the New York Islanders.

Framed were the gamesheet from the match, a 4-3 overtime win by the Islanders on Long Island, and the pucks Matthews fired into the net for goals 420 and 421 in his National Hockey League career.
Matthews set the record in his 664th game with the Leafs; Sundin, who flew over from Sweden earlier Tuesday, scored 420 goals in 981 games in a Toronto uniform.
There was a standing ovation as the two met at centre ice.
Early in the game, Matthews had a great chance for his 422nd goal during a Leafs power play but was stopped by Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky on a breakaway.
Before the Matthews ceremony, there was a tribute and moment of silence for Leafs great Bob Pulford, who passed away on Monday at the age of 89.
More to come …
