A Toronto-based sex store might be used to getting reviews about its products but the owners were surprised when they received boxes of returned adult items — along with two letters from the Pentagon.

Bonjibon, an online sexual wellness shop, received the ominous letters in September after boxes of their products arrived at a U.S. naval base in Bahrain.

Co-founder Grace Bennett https://www.instagram.com/p/DO9biEMEVUh/ to share how the signed letters from the U.S. Department of Defence on behalf of the Kingdom of Bahrain noted they were “mad that their soldiers ordered spicy toys from my business” because “they are stationed in a country where those things are illegal.”

She added: “I didn’t know that they were going to Bahrain!”

Ships to some military bases

The store, which sells sex toys as well as vibrators, dildos, rings and lubes, shipped worldwide when it first opened in 2019, but its customer base is comprised mainly of those from Canada, the United States, South America, Europe and Asia due to laws and regulations surrounding what items can be imported to some countries — including Bahrain.

Bonjibon also frequently ships to military bases, and Bennett told CTV News that she suspects the packages were forwarded to someone stationed in Bahrain, since the company does not ship there directly.

The contents had been thrown back inside but the package also contained a letter from the Department of War by Trump with the subject: “Adult item Identified during X-ray Mail Screening.”

“During security screening by Bahrain Customs, pornographic materials and or devices were identified in a package addressed to you,” the letter, sent by the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command fleet logistics centre in Bahrain, read in part.

“This letter is to notify you that your parcel was returned to the sender,” it continued. “Please notify the sender that pornographic materials or devices are not allowed into the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

The importation of pornographic material, including sex toys and nude magazines, are in “strict violation” of Bahrain law, and the items are subject to confiscation and potential prosecution.

What was in the ‘spicy’ packages?

Bennett noted to CTV how the defence department asked the buyer to inform Bonjibon to, in effect, “stop sending butt plugs to Bahrain.”

The shop owner took it a step further on her Instagram page and whispered exactly what was purchased: “It was a butt plug and a Bullet vibrator.”

She then issued a warning to any military members who want to place future orders.

“They literally categorize these goods as ‘posing an immediate danger to life or limb or an immediate and substantial danger to property,'” Bennett quoted the letters.

She advised: “This is for all the American soldiers who are stationed overseas, specifically ones stationed in countries where good vibes might be illegal. You cannot order from Bonjibon.”
