The violent death of a Kingston, Ont., man in his 30s is being investigated as a homicide and one person has been arrested, local police say.

Jayme Shawn Syring, 34, died of his injuries at Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday, according to a Kingston Police media release.

Syring had been assaulted at a residence on Princess Street near Gardiners Road, police said.

A 51-year-old man from Kingston was arrested Thursday with the help of the street crime and drug enforcement units, police said. A search warrant was also executed in the 100 block of Sutherland Drive, according to the release.

Kingston Police did not release the man's name or say what he'd been charged with, despite the fact he was scheduled to appear in bail court Friday.

Police said they're still gathering evidence and that there's no apparent risk to public safety. No one else was injured, they said.

A spokesperson told CBC said they hoped to share more information in the future.
