Alex Pereira and Tracy Cortez are UFC's newest power couple

The UFC has a new power couple.

Light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and fellow fighter Tracy Cortez kicked off the new year by revealing they are romantically linked together.

Cortez, 32, shared a photo to her Instagram story early New Year’s Day sharing a kiss with Pereira as she held sparklers in a snowy winter scene.

Pereira, 38, also shared a snap to his Instagram account smiling for the camera while standing behind the UFC flyweight fighter as they wore matching sweaters.

The romance lit up social media as many wondered how they will communicate since Cortez, who is American of Mexican descent, speaks English and Spanish while Pereira is from Brazil and speaks Portuguese.

Some on Reddit said the new couple should be able to understand each other as Spanish and Portuguese are similar languages.

“Spanish and Portuguese have extremely similar spellings but pronounce words differently,” one person commented. “Cortez speaks Spanish and some Portuguese, Pereira speaks Portuguese. He also speaks some English.”

Another wrote Pereira “can speak English decently he just doesn’t like to in public.”

On Christmas, https://www.instagram.com/p/DSsggZIEZ50/ that she was spending the holidays away from home as she “focused on training, bettering my craft, evolving, growing in every way possible” in Brazil.

“Grateful is an understatement, never have I not felt like home when I come visit @pitbullbrothers,” she wrote in appreciation for the renowned mixed martial arts team founded by brothers Patricio and Patricky Freire and their late coach Bruno Gouveia.

Pereira, nicknamed “Poatan” meaning “stone hands” in the indigenous Tupi language for his powerful punches, is currently recovering from a broken foot and hasn’t fought since taking his title back at UFC 320 in October.

“Poatan and Tracy Cortez dating is the most unexpected MMA romance,” one person shared to social platform X.

“Tracy and Alex stepping into the new year together is the ultimate power move,” another wrote. “Wishing them all the happiness ahead.”
