Toronto woman dies while skiing at Banff resort

A 47-year-old woman from Toronto died Saturday afternoon while skiing at Banff ski resort in Alberta, the [RCMP has announced](https://www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/national/toronto-woman-47-dies-on-mountain-at-banff-ski-resort/article_d2afc9d4-75a2-533f-bae2-c86f5dbd0017.html)

The deceased, confirmed by her family as Farah Merchant, was located in an area that had trees and deep snow just off a green run known as the Avenue ski path.

A STARS air ambulance and local paramedics were called to the resort village around 3:30 p.m. local time, and snow patrol arrived at the scene within three minutes of being notified.

Alberta RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said via the Canadian Press that first responders were unable to revive her, and she was declared dead at the scene.

Witnesses say they saw the woman fall off the trail into a pocket of snow, Global News reports.

It’s not clear if her death is the result of a medical issue that occurred prior to falling, or if the fall caused her death. The RCMP says the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
