Boxing Day storm brings blowing snow and freezing rain to Ontario

اخبار العرب-كندا 24: الجمعة 26 ديسمبر 2025 03:08 مساءً

A messy Boxing Day storm hit southern Ontario on Friday, bringing snow, ice pellets and freezing rain. The roads became slick and traffic slowed, causing snowfall warnings and special weather alerts from Toronto to Windsor.

Northern Ontario and most of cottage country experienced all-snow conditions, with 5 to 20 cm possible and the heaviest amounts near Thunder Bay to Wawa.

In southwestern Ontario, a layer of above-freezing air combined with cold surface air resulted in snow, ice pellets and freezing rain. The type of precipitation shifted depending on where communities were located in relation to the warm and cold air.

Windsor experienced freezing rain, while Sarnia, London and Simcoe received 5-15 mm. Ice pellets fell north of London through Hamilton, Kitchener and Goderich, while Niagara, Toronto, Oshawa and Barrie received 5-15 cm of snow late Friday afternoon, with some ice pellets mixed in.
