Montreal weather: Your dog doesn't care what the wind chill is

The bite in the air Friday morning is a minus-28 C wind chill.

Temperatures will rise — barely — in Montreal through the day, with a high of minus-13 C and a wind chill of just minus-16 by the afternoon. While the temperature only drops one degree overnight, the wind chill returns to a brutal minus-24 C. Environment Canada warns there’s a risk of frostbite.

Frostbite happens when blood vessels near the skin constrict, restricting blood flow to your hands, feet, nose and ears, according to Health Canada, which has tips on how to avoid it and what to do if it happens anyway.

Things will slowly warm up through the weekend, with a daytime high of minus-9 C Saturday and Sunday. Flurries will be sprinkled around on Saturday.
