Ogden Elementary School closed as Calgary police investigate suspicious death in the area

The Calgary Police Service is on scene near Ogden Elementary School investigating an overnight shooting death deemed suspicious.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police were called to the 7000 block of 20 Street S.E. for reports of gunshots and a man injured by shooting, CPS said in a news release.

Upon arrival, officers located the deceased victim outside of his vehicle. Shortly after, another vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting was discovered abandoned and one person was taken into custody.

CPS then received a call from a Palliser resident regarding a suspicious person, and as a result, two more people were taken into custody. Police say their involvement in the shooting is yet to be confirmed.

Calgary police believe this was a targeted shooting but the motive remains unclear in the early stages of the investigation. An autopsy on the victim will be conducted on Thursday.

Traffic in the area will be disrupted as the investigation proceeds, and Ogden Elementary School, located at 1919 76 Ave S.E., will be closed for the day due to its proximity to the scene. Police say school administration will be in contact with parents about the closure.

There is also a police presence in a nearby shopping centre as the investigation continues.
