Montreal reached its first -20°C of the season early Tuesday morning as a lobe of modified Arctic air settled over northern Quebec. The last -20°C recorded in Montreal was on January 25, 2025.

DON'T MISS: Canada’s December outlook holds a strong, cold start to winter

This marks the earliest -20°C at Montréal-Trudeau Airport (YUL) since 2008, with a 17-year gap.

Typically, this freezing milestone is reached closer to Christmas. Nearby communities also recorded their first -20°C of the season.

Below-normal temperatures are forecast to persist through the holidays. No significant pattern change is expected, with any mild weather likely brief and tied to low pressure systems passing north of the region.
