There's no question this final weekend of May will start on a spectacular note, with abundant sunshine, and comfortable temperatures splashing across southern Ontario on Friday. With low humidity, conditions really couldn't feel any nicer.

Parts of the region, however are at risk of some late night thunderstorms, as the threat creeps into the southwest during the overnight hours. The stateside storms threaten gusty winds in places like Windsor if they're able to cross the border with strength early Saturday.

The storm risk becomes more widespread throughout the day on Saturday, though there's still some uncertainty if the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) manages to escape the worst of the stormy conditions once again.

Full sunshine returns to round out the weekend on Sunday, so you'll want to make sure to soak up that natural Vitamin D before the next soggy pattern takes shape for early next week.

Nocturnal thunderstorm threat creeps in early Saturday

A frontal system will approach southwestern Ontario very early Saturday morning. While the stronger thunderstorms south of the border are likely to dissipate as they move towards the Windsor area, the region is still at risk for gusty winds if the storms manage to stay together.

The rest of Ontario will wake up with more sunshine Saturday morning before the front moves across the province throughout the day.

Widespread rain is forecast across Lake Superior to the Georgian Bay shores, with embedded thunderstorms likely, as well.

While it's still uncertain where the stronger storms will develop, strong winds, heavy rain, and small hail are the main risks across the south and east through Saturday afternoon.

There's the chance for storms to develop across the GTA later in the day on Saturday, although parts of the region may miss the worst of it if the stormy conditions stay further north again.

Soggy set up for early next week

After Saturday's storm risk, full sunshine returns in force for Sunday, ahead of a soggy set up taking shape for next week.

A Colorado low will bring widespread heavy rainfall across Ontario starting Monday, with periods of rain expected to persist well into Wednesday.

Despite starting the week on a milder note, temperatures will begin to cool well below seasonal through mid-week, with daytime highs only sitting in the teens.

MUST SEE: Late snowfall puts a 'freeze' on summer for these provinces

For the first week of June, temperatures are expected to be near seasonal, or a few degrees below seasonal, most days.
