A B.C. man charged with the 2022 murder of his wife in their Abbotsford home has pleaded guilty, according to police.

Inderjit Singh Sandhu, then 48 years old, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 45-year-old Kamaljit Kaur Sandhu in July 2022.

On Friday, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder in Abbotsford Supreme Court, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said in a Saturday statement.

The plea comes nearly two years after Abbotsford police officers found the victim with critical injuries in her home on the 2900 block of Eastview St. on July 28, 2022, according to IHIT. Despite life-saving efforts, Sandhu died of her injuries.

Sandhu was arrested on the scene and taken into custody, IHIT said. He was charged with first-degree murder the next day, according to court records.

Police said at the time that the the couple had two children, who were aged 16 and 21.

"This was traumatic to all the family and neighbours," Sgt. David Lee said in a statement at the time. "Support services and resources are being made available to all those who need it."

Sandhu's sentencing date has not yet been set, police said Saturday.
