MONTREAL - MARCH 14:

The most impressive thing about the CBS series Ghosts (on Global in Canada), is that while there's quite a large ensemble cast, we are given time to really learn about each character. This week, that was particularly true for Asher Grodman's character Trevor, with his brother Jeremy, played by Jon Glaser, checking into Woodstone Mansion.

The episode, titled "Hello, Brother," begins with Jeremy arriving at Woodstone for the first time, saying he was previously too emotional to attend the memorial his family held for his dead older brother. But we find out that Jeremy was actually fired by his father and has scammed Jay's (Utkarsh Ambudkar) loyalty points system, by signing up with multiple emails, so he has enough points to stay at the property for free for a year.

While Trevor is thrilled, Jay and Samantha (Rose McIver) know they need to get Jeremy to leave. After Trevor shared a story about how he would always beat his little brother in the Super Mega Bowl video game, Jay comes up with a plan to challenge Jeremy. If Jeremy wins the Super Mega Bowl battle against Jay, he gets double the reward points. If Jeremy looses, he has to leave Woodstone.

"One of the things about Trevor that's very unique is that the people who were part of his life, for the most part, are still alive," Grodman told Yahoo Canada. "So the impact that he had on people when he was alive is still being felt."

"So his brother coming to the house, not only does it give you insight into another relationship that he had, but he can still have the experience of watching ... the life that he left, and seeing how his brother has changed and grown since his death. Watching one of the ghosts go through that experience I think is is a lot of fun. It's a colour we don't really get to play with."

MONTREAL - APRIL 4:

'It's just fun knowing that everyone in the house got to watch Trevor die'

For Grodman, he particularly enjoys playing with the fact that Trevor is (until the addition of Caroline Aaron's character Carol) the most recent person who died and became a ghost stuck at Woodstone.

"There's a lot in your research as an actor, ... if we're talking about global warming or something like that, you have to kind of check the dates to be like, did Trevor know about this?" Grodman said. "So each character has their own point of view based on that time, what they knew, what they had a relationship with, what they didn't have a relationship to."

"[Trevor's] also like the little brother in terms of the afterlife. ... He's bored, but it's still something that he can have fun with, while I think a lot of the some of the ghosts are just like, 'Please god, let me get sucked off.' So it's a different point of view. And then in terms of his death, it's just fun knowing that everyone in the house got to watch Trevor die and he's had no privacy, in terms of that transition. I always think it'd be fun to kind of see the early days of that transition and how he came to terms with it."

VANCOUVER - JULY 27: The Baby Bjorn Sam meets a Viking ghost at the Farnsbys house who has an unexpected connection to Thorfinn. Also, Trevor devises a new method for the ghosts to trade favors, on the CBS Original series GHOSTS, Thursday, Nov. 3 (8:31-9:01 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Trevor and Hetty's passionate relationship is still a highlight

Going back into the history of Ghosts, one of the most fun story arcs we've seen in the series is when Trevor and Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) started having a sexual relationship.

Grodman explained that when the show began, there was a Zoom meeting with cast members, showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, and the writers, which gave the actors the space to pitch things they were thinking about.

"I know that both Rebecca and I went into those meetings pitching the same thing, which was to have Trevor and Hetty in a kind of love-hate, combustible passion slash sex relationship, that wasn't romantic," Grodman said. "They're very similar in terms of coming from money and status, ... and power and a hierarchy, ... but they view the world so differently."

"Especially on issues of sex and liberation, where Trevor's walking around half naked for eternity and is fine with it, and she is as buttoned up as you could get. There's just so many things that they're at odds with. To watch the power struggle between the two of them, and then to throw some sex in there, we were both pining for that and had a blast playing it."

Montreal crew's 'mind boggling' talent

A particular highlight for Canadians is that Ghosts is actually filmed in Montreal. Much like his costar Román Zaragoza, Grodman had a lot of praise for the show's Montreal crew.

"We are really lucky that we get to do the show in Montreal," Grodman said. "We have an amazing crew, which is a Montreal-based crew, and I think this show is exponentially better for it."

"The show, I think, has a look and feel to it that's different from a lot of other shows, especially on network television, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that our crew is like, we want to make this thing special. For this season, because we shot in the winter, because of the strike we started later, every scene except for one is an interior, is being shot inside the studio. But there are a lot of exteriors and so these are just sets that our crew has built inside this studio. ... The artistry is mind boggling, and then the city is beautiful and eclectic."
