A man has been charged in the murder of a woman at a home near the University of British Columbia campus last week in what homicide investigators believe may be a case of intimate partner violence.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said University RCMP were called to a residence on Shortcut Road in the University Endowment Lands near midnight on March 13 and found a deceased woman.
IHIT took over the investigation and said Thursday that 35-year-old Yang "Christopher" Liang has been charged with second-degree murder.
"As the parties were known to one another, investigators believe this may have been a tragic incident of intimate partner violence," Cpl. Esther Tupper of IHIT said in a statement.
Investigators said last week that two people were arrested at the scene. CBC News has reached out to IHIT for comment on whether charges have been laid against anyone else in relation to the case.
IHIT did not release the age of the victim, but in an earlier statement said she was believed to be an adult woman associated with the residence.
Separately, IHIT said anyone who is a victim of intimate partner violence, or who knows a victim, should contact local police or VictimLinkBC, a confidential service available across the province.
