Three people have been charged after police in Behchokǫ̀, N.W.T., say they seized 1.9 kg of cocaine during a traffic stop on Highway 3 on Saturday.

RCMP also say they seized a handgun and a prohibited extended round magazine.

"The presence of a significant quantity of drugs and a firearm, again highlight the risks that drug traffickers present not only to those who are struggling with addictions but also to the greater community at large," said RCMP Supt. Dyson Smith in a news release on Tuesday.

"The Northwest Territories RCMP are steadfast in their resolve to disrupt these activities, charge those responsible and seize the proceeds of this illicit and dangerous trade."

Jennifer Drygeese-Yelle, 20, from Dettah, N.W.T., as well as Jackito Guiwan, 19, and Othman Mohammed, 19, from Edmonton were all charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited device and tampering with a serial number.

Mohammed was also charged with six counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.
