A cyclist has died in hospital after he was struck by a driver in Scarborough on Monday night, Toronto police say.

The collision happened near St. Clair Avenue East and Birchmount Avenue. Police were called to the area shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Police said the cyclist is believed to be a man in his 50s. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene, according to police.

St. Clair Avenue East is closed between Warden and Birchmount avenues.
