Cairo condemns Israeli settlers’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

CAIRO – The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has vehemently denounced recent Israeli settlers’ incursions into the yards of al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police.

These incursions violate the sanctity of the al-Aqsa Mosque, and are provocative to Muslims, the ministry said in a press release on Sunday.

They also constitute a violation of the historic status quo of al-Aqsa Mosque, the ministry added, asserting the need to put an end to these provocative acts, and take the measures necessary to maintain the legal and historical status of Islamic and Christian sanctuaries in Jerusalem.
