Arabnews24.ca:Friday 28 July 2023 01:07 PM: The family of a "rugby mad" teenager who died in a crash just 11 days after his 18th birthday have said he was a "remarkable young man".

Ceirion Galliers, from Abercanaid in Merthyr Tydfil, died after being struck by a car on the A4060 between Pentrebach and Mountain Hare at around 10.40pm on Saturday 22 July.

In a tribute, his family said they were "inconsolable" following his death, and described him as an "academic high-flyer".

Ceirion was head boy at Afon Taf High School before going on to complete his studies at UWC Atlantic College.

He had also secured a full-time role with the CPS just six weeks ago.

"It's no exaggeration to say a whole town is in mourning," they said.

A keen rugby player, his team Merthyr RFC have retired the number nine shirt for the upcoming season in tribute to him.
