Arabnews24.ca:Monday 1 May 2023 12:34 AM: Global megastar Rihanna has given eager fashion fans the first glimpse of this year's Met Gala, which is honouring German fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, who died in February.

The Umbrella singer posted pictures on social media of her wearing a white fur dress and black fur bolero jacket with an accompanying hat, while also showing off her pregnancy bump.

In what seemed like paying tribute to Lagerfeld's 1994 fake fur collection, from when he was creative director of Chanel, the singer paired the look with white glasses in the shape of the iconic 'C' of the French fashion house logo.

She captioned the images "not even Monday", acknowledging that she was getting into the spirit of the event, which will take place at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, a day early.

Every year, the event brings together the world's most famous faces, but requires them to dress in line with a specific - and most of the time quirky - theme.

Fittingly, this year's dress code is "in honour of Karl" - with many guests likely to choose from the creative director's vast archive at luxury brands including Chanel, Fendi, Chloe, and of course, his own self-titled brand.

The event is one of the most glamorous in the celebrity calendar, with the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian and Madonna typically bagging themselves an invitation.

But at its centre, the gala raises money for charity, with all funds from the night going to the Met's Costume Institute.

Rihanna and rapper ASAP Rocky previously made an eye-catching appearance at the 2021 gala, arriving last on the red carpet in co-ordinated outfits.

The pair announced they are expecting their second child during the singer's headline slot at the 2023 Super Bowl half-time show. It follows the birth of their son last year.

You can follow all the action from this year's Met Gala live from 11pm on Monday, on the Sky News website and app.
