A new survey from Toronto-based polling firm Liaison Strategies finds that most Kitchener residents believe crime is on the rise, even as police data shows declines in several types of offences. In particular, despite a decrease in homicides last year, 66 per cent of residents responded by saying they believe the murder rate is increasing. James Popham, an associate professor in criminology at Wilfrid Laurier University, spoke to CBC K-W's Diego Pizarro about what’s driving the disconnect between public perception and police-reported crime data.
