A 30-year-old-man is facing several charges, including possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking, stemming from an allegation of a shooting and a traffic stop Friday night in St. John’s.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said it received a complaint from a person who thought "he had been shot at," while he was in the area of Clancy Drive, near Quidi Vidi Lake, according to the police force’s weekend incident report.

While no other details from the complainant about the alleged shooting are contained in the report, the individual gave the police a description of a vehicle and its occupant.

The vehicle was located on Freshwater Road. Police then conducted a “high risk traffic stop.”

“At that time officers observed a 30-year-old male throw four small bags of suspected cocaine and a pair of brass knuckles out the window which were recovered,” said the report.

The man has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon and two counts for failing to comply with a release order.

He appeared in provincial court in St. John’s this afternoon.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
