John Beecher will be having a chit-chat Sunday with the NHL’s department of player safety. These sorts of hearings are typically a hint that a fine or suspension is coming.
Beecher, who skates as the Calgary Flames’ fourth-line centre, is facing supplemental discipline for his punch on Nashville Predators forward Michael McCarron during Saturday’s contest at the Saddledome.
During a first-period scrum, with one fight already finished, McCarron wanted a piece of Beecher. The linesmen eventually intervened and with two officials between them, Beecher reached to land a punch to the jaw.

He was assessed a two-minute minor for roughing, plus a 10-minute misconduct, while McCarron was handed identical penalties.
With the Predators looking for revenge, the 24-year-old Beecher tussled in the second period with defenceman Nic Hague. The Flames’ depth forward was injured in that scrap and missed the rest of the game, with Hague scoring in the last minute to lift the visitors to a 4-3 victory.
Beecher isn’t the only dude with a meeting scheduled Sunday with the NHL’s disciplinarians. Winnipeg’s Logan Stanley has some explaining to do after a sucker punch Saturday on Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk.
