Employees with Carnival Cruise Line and security guards were quick to respond to a mother and her child in the water after the ship docked in the Bahamas last week.

The incident occurred in Freeport and was caught on video on Dec. 21 and shared to social media by a bystander on another cruise ship.

“I’m sitting in my room on the Carnival Conquest and I hear screaming outside,” the woman who filmed the rescue wrote in the caption to the clip shared to her account on TikTok.

“Apparently people fell between the dock and the Carnival Sunrise.”

A Carnival spokesperson told People magazine that a “four-year-old girl briefly walked away from her mother and fell into the water.” The mother then jumped in the water after her, the spokesperson added.

The video shows dock workers and other people crowding around the edge of the pier and looking down to locate the mother and child. A security guard then waves bystanders away as the cruise ship’s employees arrive to help.

“We got officers coming off the boat now,” the TikToker said in the video. A ladder was lowered and life preservers were dropped by crew members.

A short time later, the girl was pulled up and given to a woman nearby as applause began to ring out among the public. Seconds later, the woman was brought up with the help of security guards.

“They were pulled to safety,” the TikToker wrote. “A mama jumped in after her baby, brave woman! Very scary situation but they were rescued quickly!”
