Windsor police officer charged with sexual assault

The Windsor Police Service says it has charged one of its own members with two counts of sexual assault.

The charges relate to off-duty incidents involving alleged inappropriate physical contact, the force said in a news release issued Tuesday.

The constable in question has served with the Windsor Police Service for six years, it said.

He is currently suspended with pay in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act of Ontario, and he will be until the judicial process is complete.

"The Windsor Police Service recognizes the seriousness of these allegations and remains committed to transparency and accountability to the community we serve," the news release read.

"As the matter is now before the court, and to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time."
