Guelph man arrested for attempted murder after dispute with his mother

A 39-year-old Guelph man has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of his mother following a family dispute last week, police say.

Guelph police responded to a call on Dec. 21 at a residence near Edinburgh Road N. and London Road W. A woman in her 60s reported being assaulted and strangled by her son.

The woman was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

After conducting an investigation, police arrested the 39-year-old man and charged him with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, assault, and breaching a probation order.

The man remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Guelph Police Service.
