'Two Cat Karen' loses it on Alaska Airlines staff over pet policy in viral video

A traveller trying to get home for Christmas had her plans derailed when Alaska Airlines refused to let her fly with her two cats.

The woman, later identified as Alexandra Compton of Portland, Oregon, was filmed screaming at an airline employee as they tried to explain their pet policy.

“Show me the policy, then, before I booked the flight, that said that I had to have a certain weight of cat to go under the seat,” Compton can be heard saying on the video, which has gone viral on social media.

The TikTok video branded Compton “Two Cat Karen” added in the description, “Angry she can’t fly with cats.”

What was said

In the clip, the staffer can be heard calmly telling her that it’s a “weight restriction, not a size restriction,” but Compton was insistent.

Another airline staffer shows the incensed cat owner the policy, explaining that the animals would not have a full range of motion and needed to travel separately in larger carriers.

Compton insisted the details were “inaccurate,” claiming the information wasn’t on the website.

“You haven’t even seen my cat, so you’re not letting me go home for Christmas,” Compton said.

When the worker denied that was his intention, Compton exploded: “You’re telling me I can’t go home for Christmas!”

Hadn’t booked her cats

The woman became even angrier when she was told that she hadn’t even booked her pets on the flight.

“My mom tried to and your website obviously isn’t user-friendly, so I’m asking you to show me right now, where she would’ve learned that before she booked my flight, so this issue would’ve never happened?”

Compton also claimed to have travelled for “many years” with her cats without any issues.

“You’ve never had a pet in (your) reservation?” the staffer asked her, to which she responded, “No. I come here, I pay the $120, I get a ticket on my bag, I go on the plane.”

However, the employee pointed out that Alaska does not charge that price for pets to travel, and suggested she had her “airlines mixed up.”

The airline’s website notes that pet fees start at $100 and range up to $200, depending on the type of travel and destination.

She might have a point

To Compton’s credit, the policy also indicates that “up to two pets of the same species and similar size may travel in the same carrier,” as long as “no body parts protrude from the carrier and the animals are not in distress.”

Nevertheless, the staffer wasn’t budging.

“You can do whatever you choose,” he said. “But I’m letting you know that there is a policy around your pets that don’t have enough room, and you don’t get to decide the company policy.”

She responded: “Why are you ruining Christmas right now? Your company doesn’t decide if my cats are comfortable or not.”

How she got home

Compton ended up buying a second carrier and getting on a later flight with both cats, according to a Facebook post.

“They made me leave the airport, buy a second pet carrier, a second seat to put the second cat under On a whole new flight 3 hours later,” she wrote.

Compton added: “F*** Alaska Airlines, their ‘policies’ and lack of customer service. I hope you all get coal for Christmas.”

The Toronto Sun has reached out to the airline for comment.
