Man charged with second-degree murder in Deer Run domestic incident

Calgary police have charged one man in relation to a suspicious death believed to be domestic in nature earlier this week in the southeast community of Deer Run.

Robert Durand, 37, is charged with one count of second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Calgary police were called to the 200 block of Deer Park Place S.E. shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday for reports of a disturbance.

A man in his 70s was taken to hospital with severe injuries and later died.

Officers later located and arrested a male suspect — a man in his 30s — in the 100 block of 9th Avenue S.W.

Police confirmed the suspect is the victim’s son.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner completed an autopsy Wednesday, and police said they will not release the victim’s name for privacy reasons.

Investigators recovered a knife as part of their investigation, police previously said.
