1 dead after being shot by officer in Mississauga, SIU notified: Peel police

One person is dead after being shot by a police officer in Mississauga, Peel Regional Police say.

Peel police say in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that they have notified Ontario's Special Investigations Unit of the officer-involved shooting.

Police say they were called to a stabbing in the area of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Britannia Road W. at about 2:30 p.m.

An officer shot and killed the stabbing suspect, police say. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The stabbing victim was taken to hospital but their current condition is not known.

Police have released few details about the victim or suspect. There's no word on their ages and sexes.

The SIU is an independent agency that investigates the conduct of police officers in incidents that may have resulted in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm or allegations of sexual assault.
