Human remains found in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., over the summer belong to a 24-year-old missing Black man from Toronto, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The death is being investigated as a homicide, Niagara Regional Police said in a news release.
Police say the man was reported missing and was last seen in May 2022. His remains were found in August 2025.
Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police's homicide unit confirmed the identity of the human remains on Tuesday. Police said his family has asked that his name not be released.

Homicide detectives in Niagara Region are working with Toronto police to investigate, police said.
In an earlier news release, police said a human skull was discovered in an area near Read Road and the shore of Lake Ontario on Aug. 31, 2025.
A few days later, on Sept. 3, police said they recovered full skeletal remains from the area.
According to the release, police worked with the coroner’s office and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service to identify the man.
