A "prolific" driving offender who has been convicted of dozens of vehicle offences over the last few years is now facing new charges, Peel police say — even though he's currently under multiple lifetime driving bans.

Since 2017, a 41-year-old Brampton man has been convicted of 35 criminal charges and eight provincial offence act charges, police said in a news release Wednesday, including:

  • Two counts each of dangerous operation and impaired operation of a vehicle.

  • Nine counts of driving while prohibited.

  • Flight from police.

  • Failing to stop after an accident.

  • Two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle.

  • Multiple counts of assault, uttering threats and mischief.

On April 11, Peel officers located the man in Brampton and arrested him on a Toronto police warrant for theft of a vehicle, two counts of driving while prohibited and six counts of breach of probation.

Peel Regional Police Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in a statement that the force is seeking out repeat driving offenders and trying to stop illegal behaviour.

"We will use all lawful means necessary to stop these irresponsible criminals from putting the safety of our community at risk," Andrews said.

The man was transferred over to Toronto police and held for a bail hearing.
