Prince Edward Island RCMP confirm a 14-year-old boy is dead after an accident in the Murray River area on the weekend.
Scott Ferris, a senior communications adviser for the RCMP, said the youth was riding a dirt bike or motorcycle on the Gladstone Road at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday when there was a single-vehicle accident.
He said the information police have gathered so far indicates the driver lost control.
"A 14-year-old male youth was the lone rider of the motorcycle and unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene," said Ferris. "The individual was wearing a helmet at the time."

"Our thoughts and condolences are definitely with the family of the victim for sure," Ferris said.
"Unfortunately, we here on Prince Edward Island have lost a number of youths in traffic incidents since last year, so yeah, we know the impacts of these can be very hard on communities."
As a result of the fatality, the Northumberland Fisheries Festival planned for July 24-28 has been postponed until an unspecified date later in the summer.
"Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends who are directly affected by these events. We stand with you in this time of sorrow and extend our heartfelt support," the festival said in a message on its Facebook page Monday morning.
"During this challenging time, it is crucial for our community to come together to heal and support one another. Let us offer our strength and compassion to those who need it most."
