Escaped Stephenville inmate is back in custody

Escaped inmate Tyler Bennett has been arrested after a week-long search.

The RCMP made the announcement in a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on Friday evening.

The arrest came a week after the 31 year-old man first escaped from the West Coast Correctional Centre in Stephenville on June 14th.

Bay St. George police had previously suggested that a woman may have been in the company of Bennett and that the police wanted to ensure her safety. In Friday's post, the RCMP says she has now been located and is safe.
