Arabnews24.ca:Tuesday 7 February 2023 11:33 AM: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi yesterday called for maintaining efforts to improve the conditions of imams and preachers. He also gave directives to organise programmes to train and qualify them according to the latest relevant systems and methods in order to enhance their ability to deal positively and realistically with the issues at hand.
The President’s remarks came as he met yesterday with Minister of Waqfs (Endowments) Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and Presidential Advisor for Financial Affairs Major General Mohamed Amin, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
President Sisi said that this comes as part of efforts to keep pace with religious discourse in line with the developments of modern age and in an enlightened and moderate manner while preserving the fundamentals of the Islamic religion as well as deepening the correct understanding of it and its lofty purposes and consolidating human values.
The meeting discussed several issues, including the efforts of the Ministry of Endowments to prepare for the holy fasting month of Ramadan. In this respect, the Minister of Endowments reviewed the planned community activities.
The President also followed up on the implementation of his directives regarding the development of the resources and assets of the Endowments Authority and its proper management and investment.
The President also listened to a presentation by the Waqfs minister on the Ministry’s plan regarding Qur’an memorisation, recitation, understanding, contemplation and interpretation.
He also reviewed the results of the International Holy Qur’an Competition held this month.
In this context, the President directed the minister to look after distinguished and talented winners and to work on refining their talents, developing their minds, and improving their understanding of the meanings and purposes of the Holy Qur’an.
