Arabnews24.ca:Sunday 5 February 2023 01:06 PM: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Sunday members of the new General Secretariat of the Federation of Arab Journalists, led by FAJ chief, the Head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Moayad Al-Lami.

The head of Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation Karam Jabr and head of the Egyptian Syndicate of Journalists, Diaa Rashwan, who doubles as the FAJ Honourary President, attended the meeting, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.

President Sisi congratulated the FAJ chief and the General Secretariat members on winning the latest elections, stressing Egypt’s support for their activities as well as for the important role undertaken by the association for the benefit of the Arab press and readers, Spokesman Fahmy said.

President Sisi had an open dialogue with the FAJ officials on ways to bolster vital role of the Arab press.

The president indicated that the press has been facing new conditions imposed by the spread of social media on a broad scale, Spokesman Fahmy said.

This makes it necessary for the press to carry on with modernisation, creating balance between the requirements of competitiveness on the one hand, and depth and objectivity of presentation on the other hand, the president said in remarks during the open dialogue.

President Sisi underscored Egypt’s unwavering stand in support of Arab causes, adding that such a stand aims to promote Arab solidarity, consolidate national institutions and reject interference in the internal affairs of countries, Spokesman Fahmy said.
