AL-UN conference on drought in Somalia kicks off in Cairo

A high-level Arab League-UN conference to counter drought and hunger in Somalia kicked off onTuesday under the chairmanship of Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit at the league’s premises.

United Nations Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia Adam Abdelmoula, who also serves as the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, will chair the UN delegation at the conference.

The meeting will address risks of hunger in Somalia and means of taking an urgent action to develop the Somali infrastructure and enhance the country’s ability to deal with drought that has hit hard the country as a result of climate change.
