Round two of heavy rain aims for the Maritimes on Sunday

Get ready for round two.

A second batch of moisture will sweep over the Maritimes through the day Sunday, hot on the heels of a subtropical disturbance that brought drenching rains and gusty winds to the region to kick off the weekend.

Saturday was a raw and ugly day throughout the region as the disturbance brought torrential downpours to portions of Nova Scotia.

Halifax saw 86 mm of rain during the event, with a grand total of 110 mm of rain falling a short drive away in Bridgewater. This turned into one of the top-eight wettest days ever recorded in Halifax—no small feat when many of the other contenders on the list were full-blown tropical systems.

Gusty winds also knocked out power to some neighbourhoods across the province. Halifax saw a maximum gust of 71 km/h during the storm.

Another low-pressure system far to the north will sweep a front over the Maritimes again on Sunday, bringing another round of precipitation to the region. The bulk of the heavy rain will fall over eastern Nova Scotia, focused on Cape Breton.

Additional rainfall totals of 5-10 mm are expected throughout Nova Scotia, with totals of 20-40 mm expected toward Cape Breton through Monday.
