An RCMP officer was sent to hospital after his vehicle was repeatedly rammed by another vehicle in northwestern Saskatchewan on Thursday, police say.

The officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Highway 40 near Neilburg, about 215 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon, on Thursday, police said in a Friday news release.

The suspect vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway. The driver then reversed, hitting the front of the RCMP vehicle.

The driver then drove forward, turned around, and rammed the police vehicle head-on twice, causing heavy damage, RCMP said.

A passing driver then came to the rescue by ramming the suspect vehicle and disabling it, police said.

The two people in the suspect vehicle, a woman and a man, then took off and ran into a wooded area.

The RCMP officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while officers from nearby detachments came to help look for the two people who fled.

A woman was arrested in the wooded area. RCMP did not indicate what charges she may face.

Police are still looking for the man who was in the vehicle, who is described as being in his mid-30s to 40s. He's roughly six feet tall and 180 pounds and has black hair, RCMP said.

He was wearing a black or blue T-shirt, a dark-coloured ball cap, blue jeans, white running shoes and a grey or black medical mask or bandanna.

Police are asking anyone who has information about the incident to call Saskatchewan RCMP at 310-7267 (RCMP) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by leaving a tip at saskcrimestoppers.com.
