Ontario storm risk crops up again on Saturday before pattern turns

With the start of meteorological summer a week away, southern Ontario continues to bask in teases of weather reflective of the season.

Warm temperatures and multiple days of thunderstorms were on the menu this week, and Saturday could see more of the same offerings. The threat will be mostly non-severe in nature, but some locales in southwestern Ontario could see some potent cells develop with large hail.

Make sure you plan ahead and stay close to sturdy shelter if you are heading outdoors on Saturday.

Sunday will be the most favourable day this weekend and for the foreseeable future, so make sure to soak up that natural vitamin D before the next soggy pattern takes shape for early next week.

Storm threat reappears Saturday

The rest of Ontario woke up with more sunshine Saturday morning before the front moves across the province throughout the day.

Widespread rain is forecast across Lake Superior to the Georgian Bay shores, with embedded thunderstorms likely, as well.

Strong winds, heavy rain, and small hail are the main risks across the south and east through Saturday afternoon.

However, there is a possibility for some storms in southwestern sections to become severe in nature, bringing the chance of large hail up to nickel-size, in addition to the downpours and wind gusts.

There's the chance for storms to develop across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) later in the day on Saturday, although many parts of the region may miss the stormy conditions if they remain farther south or north.

Soggy set up for early next week

After Saturday's storm risk, full sunshine returns in force for Sunday, ahead of a soggy set up taking shape for next week.

A Colorado low will bring widespread heavy rainfall across Ontario starting Monday, with periods of rain expected to persist well into Wednesday.

Despite starting the week on a milder note, temperatures will begin to cool well below seasonal through mid-week, with daytime highs only sitting in the teens.

For the first week of June, temperatures are expected to be near seasonal, or a few degrees below seasonal, most days.
