Eastern P.E.I. man faces charge of luring a child online

RCMP have charged a 52-year-old man from P.E.I.'s Kings County in connection with a child luring case.

The charge was luring for the purposes of facilitating the commission of an offence. The accused will appear in Georgetown provincial court on May 23.

Police say their investigation took about five months.

They say investigators didn't find evidence of any victims on Prince Edward Island, but they are reminding parents to have discussions around internet use with their children.

"If your child is on the internet, then it's time to have a chat with them about internet safety," said Cpl. Gavin Moore, the media relations officer for the RCMP on the Island.

He recommended looking up resources from sites like cybertip.ca, which bills itself as "Canada's national tipline for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children."

"It's a simple discussion with your child about some of the dangers and some of the most appropriate actions to take online," Moore said.
