Heavy rain for next few days in Windsor-Essex, Environment Canada warns

Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent will receive large amounts of rainfall over the next two days, Environment Canada warns. 

Total rainfall of 30 to 45 millimetres is expected, with higher amounts possible. The rain will begin overnight Wednesday and end early Saturday morning.

"The heaviest rainfall is expected to fall Thursday into Thursday night. Locally higher amounts are likely in thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening," the weather agency warned in a special weather statement.

While there's some uncertainty that remains about the track of the low-pressure system that will come over the area and the resulting rainfall, Environment Canada warns that heavy downpours can cause flash foods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in some low-lying areas is possible.

In Sarnia, a similar special weather statement is also in effect with expected rainfall amounts of 25 to 45 mm.
