It's an absolutely joyous return for Girls5eva, with Season 3 now on Netflix, one of the most exciting and unique shows you can watch, with Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

Girls5eva Season 3 release date: March 14
Where to watch Girls5eva: Netflix
Cast: Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell and Renée Elise Goldsberry
Creator: Meredith Scardino
Number of episodes: 6

Season 3 begins with Girls5eva on the Returnity tour and while the goal is to play large venues, they kind of stall in Fort Worth, Texas, staying at the Marriott Divorced Dad Suitelets.

Gloria (Pell) is trying to hook up with 178 different types of women (she has a spreadsheet), Summer (Philipps) and Wickie (Goldsberry) are finally spending some time alone together, which is a bit traumatizing for Summer, and Dawn (Bareilles) has just gotten a little too comfortable in her Suitelets room with The Crown and a bath.

Girls5eva has always been fun and silly, but Season 3 takes things one step further, integrating very real and not so fun elements of real life for women. In this case, it taps into the absurdity of politics around reproductive rights and women's bodies.

"It's so nice to be in a workspace that's not pretending the rest of the world doesn't exist," Bareilles told Yahoo Canada. "They are news headlines that do impact real women and so it's exciting to get to sort of talk about that, and it's really fun to sort of inflate the balloon until it will just about burst."

With Bareilles describing this element shown as a "ridiculous scenario," (which we won't spoil, but involves a government official in a doctor's office) Philipps cut in to stress that it's also not rare, as comedically as it's explored in the show, brilliantly keeping the same tone of Girls5eva while addressing this topic.

"It's really fun and it feels really smart and really bold for Meredith Scardino, our fearless leader, to take on some of this deeper subject matter, and play with the absurdity of it, and also the the truth of it," Bareilles said.

'They had an idea that felt like it was meant to be'

Another highlight in Season 3 is how the show lets us in on Wickie's upbringing and childhood. Goldsberry said she was "overjoyed" to be able to go in this direction with her character.

"I feel like they had an idea that felt like it was meant to be," she said. "I think the idea that the backstory of this Black artist is surprisingly great, it's wonderful in the fact that somebody can take anything, and make it a thing they're trying to live through and to survive."

"I just think people do that. I think we tend to find reasons and find any reason we possibly can to be looked at, and feel special, and she does. I think it's just a testament to really creative writers and their ability to continue to surprise us with a character that we thought we already knew."

Similarly, but in a very different way, we learn more about Summer as well, who's figuring out who she is as her own woman, not just Summer being influenced by a man.

"I love that she is questioning, is there a me inside me? And who is that me? And what does she want to do?" Philipps said. "She trusts herself finally and there's a real good payoff for that, and I think that's one of the biggest, for me, takeaways of this season."

For Pell, you may think that she has a bit of a leg up with her wife, Janine Brito, writing on the show and also playing Gloria's ex-wife, but Pell shared that Brito is great about not revealing the "big picture."

"I don't like when you tell me like the funniest thing that's going to happen in that episode," Pell said. "It's like trailers now on comedies, they show you every funny thing that's going to happen in the comedy and then you're like, 'Well, I guess I don't have to see it.'"

Admittedly, for Season 3 of Girls5eva, it would be hard to pick out the funniest moments, because it truly is a season filled with laughs, and we couldn't be happier.
