RCMP in Prince George say they are investigating two suspicious deaths over the weekend.

The first investigation was launched after Prince George RCMP found a body off the Salmon River Forest Service Road just north of city limits around 3 p.m. PT Saturday.

The North District Major Crimes Unit and B.C. Coroners Service have taken over the investigation.

Then on Sunday, shortly after 10:30 a.m. PT, police were called to the 2000-block of Quince Street, near the city's downtown, for a report of a dead woman.

Investigators in both cases have deemed the deaths to be suspicious but do not believe there is a wider risk to the public, according to RCMP releases.

Prince George has already recorded two homicides this year, following a shooting at a homeless encampment in January and a fatal shooting on downtown Victoria Street in February.

In 2023, the city recorded eight homicides — the most ever in a calendar year.

Prince George RCMP Supt. Shaun Wright is scheduled to a present his 2023 year in review report to city council at a regular public meeting on Monday night.

According to publicly available slides from the report, violent crime in 2023 was up over the previous three years, with more than 1,400 assault calls.
