There's one winning ticket in the Jan. 16 Lotto Max draw, and someone in Alberta is holding on to the $70 million prize.
Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) is reminding players to double check their tickets and claim their winnings before the one year deadline. The $70 million is the maximum the Lotto Max jackpot can grow to, after starting at $10 million.
“We are waiting to find out where specifically this was purchased, we know it was outside of Edmonton and Calgary,” said Emily Olsen, media relations strategist at WCLC, in an email to Yahoo News Canada.
The winning numbers from the January 16 draw are 2, 9, 10, 14, 42, 43, 44.
The ticket behind the game’s second prize of $284,899.70 was also sold somewhere in Calgary. The second prize winner matched six of seven numbers above, and the bonus number 25.
Ticket holders can use the Lotto Spot app to scan their tickets and find out if they’ve won from the comfort of their own home. If you see that the numbers match your ticket, please contact Player Care at 1-800-665-3313 and begin your claim process.
Lotto Max is $5 per play and draws take place every Tuesday and Friday. It gives players the option to select seven numbers from a field of 1 to 50. Alternatively, players can also opt for a quick pick where the system generates a randomized number for you. The objective is to match as many numbers as possible during the bi-weekly draws.
In 2023, Albertans won over $158,000,000 in Lotto Max prizes alone. Many Edmontonians in specific have been enjoying their luck, with a $35 million winner from the July 25 draw, and another $50 million winner for the Sept. 5 draw. Just two weeks ago, a man from Edmonton waited eight months before claiming his $1.6M Lotto 6/49 prize.
